G’AIM’E Firmware Update Released & Time Crisis Tournament Announced

After a few months of testing and feedback from players, a firmware update has been released for the G’AIM’E Light Gun system that improves aim accuracy and tracking for the console, aimed to alleviate many of the issues some users experienced with their particular room or TV setup. This also allows for the addition of different colored bars on the left and right of the screen, not only to improve tracking, but to allow the games to be played in their original 4:3 aspect ratios, which is a great option for presentation and preservation.

The update can be obtained at the downloads page on their official website and has a tutorial on how to complete the update, since the console does not have online connectivity. A PC is required to update the firmware, and the feedback from the community has already been positive about the improvements they’re seeing with the system, and it’s bringing the system that much closer to being a true modern plug & play light gun experience for the masses.

Aside from the new firmware update, it was also announced they’ll be holding a worldwide Time Crisis tournament with some monetary prizes as well as some physical medals for the top three winners in each category. Even if you don’t own a G’AIM’E Light Gun system yourself, you can enter the contest by using an in-store kiosk at any of the locations throughout Europe and Japan, which is an excellent way to get more people involved.

It’ll be split into two leagues, one called “Enjoy” where players compete to get the fastest time on the 1st Stage of Time Crisis and submit a photo of the results screen, and one called “Athlete” where a short video of you completing the final boss is submitted. The tournament runs from March 14th through April 12th so there’s plenty of time to practice and nail down your top scores.

The full details and conditions can be found on the official site, and hopefully you can get your scores in before the window ends. I’m happy to see this kind of event being held, which harkens back to competing for top scores with your friends in the arcade or at home. Hopefully we’ll see some of your scores up there at the top when the winners are chosen in April!
