GunCon 3 Now Working on PCs, Windows Driver Software Released
A new lease on life
When the GunCon 3 was released back in 2007, it only ended up being supported in four games for the PS3, which left many of us wanting to use it for other games in the 18 years since its release, and now that day has finally come.
Though there was some software to make the GunCon 3 work on MiSTer devices back in 2022, the high price and relatively complicated setup of that hardware made it somewhat prohibitive to use, but yesterday, a user named DANITURI uploaded the first version of the software to make it work on Windows devices.
Calibration is very simple
The setup is quite easy, with just two quick software installs and a simple calibration to go through, and then you can get to shooting within minutes. Obviously, this still requires you to have the sensors, which have become extremely expensive to obtain the official ones over the years, but you also have the option to buy third-party sensors (second option) or build your own (if you have a little bit of electronics and soldering knowledge.)
Whether you already own the gun and sensors or not, this is now one of the best and cheapest ways to get into light gun gaming on your PC nowadays, since the tracking is still quite solid, despite being developed 18 years ago, and it has 8 buttons besides the trigger and 2 analog sticks, allowing a lot of versatility for different games.
The ever-elusive sensors. At least there’s third-party options now
The only caveat here is that the software only currently supports one GunCon 3, so you’ll only be able to play single-player games with this setup, but it’s still a much better and cheaper option than a lot of what’s on the market now, and you could also use another PC light gun as your second player if you already have one.
Pull out your dusty old guns today and get shooting, or try to track one down before the prices start to inevitably shoot up in the future, and open yourself to a new world of light gun games on PC if you don’t already have a setup for yourself!
