SEGA Announces New ‘House of the Dead: Reawakened’ Arcade Game
SEGA has just announced yesterday that a new House of the Dead arcade game is on the way, titled House of the Dead: Reawakened, and it’ll be the first new entry to the series in over 8 years, after Scarlet Dawn was released in 2018.
There’s a short teaser video on their Instagram account that shows a few quick glimpses of the old gothic mansion aesthetics, and some seemingly-removed details from Sega’s official site showed that this will be a very large walk-in attraction cabinet that’s big enough for two adults to walk inside. It will also feature VR headsets for immersive gameplay, as well as full haptic recoil guns, but we can’t tell if the guns are attached to the headset like many other VR gun games are.
The game is set to feature 3 different stages for players to fight their way through, all built in Unreal Engine 5, and it’s set to have some real-life jumpscares in the cabinet with surround sound that spans the booth to offer a more immersive sound experience. The title hints that it could be a reboot or re-telling of the first HOTD game, but we don’t have enough information for that to be conclusive just yet.
Here’s the teaser video:
This is an exciting new step for the House of the Dead series, to be moving into VR, and there’s rumblings that the game will feature some of the same parts and systems as Sega’s VR Agent and Alpha Ops VR Strike games from a few years ago. However, once again, we don’t have enough info to go on yet as to what this will mean for Reawakened.
The cabinet will be shown off this November at the IAAPA Expo, and we’ll have some hands-on reports and details around that time, but for now, this is some very exciting news and I can’t wait to learn more as we get closer to the public release. No tentative release date has been set yet, but we may learn that by the end of the year, so stay tuned for more updates as we approach the release!
